The Ultimate Weekend Getaway from Washington D.C. for Couples

Getaway from the hustle and bustle of the D.C. area and head to the Maryland Eastern Shore. It’s only a 2-hour drive—perfect for carefree weekend getaways. If you want to experience privacy, paired with pure bliss, stay in a cottage at Inn at Huntingfield Creek. They feature cozy fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, and stunning water views.

What To Do During Your Romantic Getaway

Sip and Eat at Java Rock

As you explore downtown Rock Hall, you might find that you need an afternoon pick-me-up. Stop in the locally-owned Java Rock cafe and coffee shop. Sip on a delicious beverage, like their Mocha-spresso or Irish Wake-Up. Then, fill up with a mouthwatering panini or gourmet soup. After that, take a stroll through their Gift Emporium and pick up a bottle of local wine or a souvenir to take with you.

Explore Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge

Grab your mittens and bundle up with your sweetheart and walk through the scenic Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. If you visit at the right time, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Tundra swans. These majestic creatures visit the refuge starting in late November and stay there until March before they migrate. The Tundra swans can fly up to 50 miles per hour, weigh 10 to 22 pounds, and have a wingspan of 72-88 inches. Although they are all around the island, the Tundra Swan Boardwalk is the best viewing place to see the swans.

Tour the DuPont Mansions in Delaware

Take a relaxing drive to Odessa, DE, and explore the colonial ‘Historic Homes of Odessa’, part of the Dupont decorative arts collection. Many of these spectacular homes and their stunning gardens are open to visitors, giving travelers a peek into a long-lost world of splendor and beauty. To make the most out of your visit, we recommend three must-see sites. Nemours Estate, known for its formal elegance, Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library, known for its expansive gardens and antique collection, and Hagley Museum and Library, known for the story it tells of the DuPont legacy.

Relax in the Library

After a day out and about exploring, come back to Inn at Huntingfield Creek to unwind. Visit our library and sit back and relax. Our library is stocked with books and a wide selection of music for our guests’ use. Also, we serve complimentary premium wine, beer, and soft drinks, as well as yummy homemade salted chocolate chip cookies daily.
