Events at Chestertown RiverArts

There’s always something exciting to experience at Chestertown RiverArts! Throughout the year, they host many popular events that are popular among locals and visitors alike.

RiverArts Studio Tour

If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of an artist’s studio looks like, you need to experience the Chestertown RiverArts Studio Tour. This event is a free, self-guided tour that takes place annually throughout the last two weekends of October. Note that this event is rain or shine. It allows visitors to take a look inside the creative spaces of artists across Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties. There are more than 60 artists on the tour that showcase diverse pieces of art. Art styles include painting, photography, sculpture, metalwork, pottery, fiber, woodcraft, jewelry, furniture, and more.

We recommend that visitors start their tour at the RiverArts Gallery at 315 High Street in Chestertown. Here, there will be sneak peeks of exhibits by the artists on tour to help guests decide what their must-see venues are. If tour-goers fall in love with something that they have to have, don’t fret. They will have the opportunity to purchase original artwork at exclusive studio prices.

Paint the Town

This unique event takes place each spring and features Plein air artists from all over the mid-Atlantic region, spending three days painting the local scene. Then, artists make their paintings available for sale to the public at a Wet Paint Reception and Sale at the RiverArts Gallery.

The term “Plein air” is French for “outdoors.” Plein air painting is the acting of painting outdoors, which is different from typical studio painting. When the artists of Paint the Town participate in this style of work, it captures the natural beauty of the Maryland Eastern Shore. Artwork will display interesting images of its farm fields, historic buildings, picturesque gardens and skyscapes, and the Chester River

Empty Bowls

RiverArts Studio and Kent County Arts Council put on this fun and heart-filled event year after year. It’s an excellent way for the community to come together for a common good cause. When you purchase a ticket for Empty Bowls, it will provide you with a choice of a ceramic bowl made by a local artist that you will take home with you. You will also be fed soup and bread and enjoy a meal with other supporting guests. Proceeds of this event benefit the Kent County Food Pantry.

Workshops at RiverArts Clay Studio

The RiverArts Clay Studio is the only one of its kind in the area. It is a space where many potters can come and freely create. The studio also offers pottery and sculpture workshops for beginners. Workshop attendees will be immersed in knowledge and learn about hand building, throwing on the wheel, glazing techniques, and firing techniques. Many of these classes allow you to produce a personal piece of art you can take home with you as a souvenir or gift for a loved one.
