Warm, lazy days spent under the summer sun are perfect, and there’s no better place to enjoy them than Betterton Beach, one of the best Eastern Shore beaches near our Bed and Breakfast! Like other fantastic beaches on the Eastern Shore, Betterton Beach is a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach on the breathtakingly beautiful Chesapeake Bay.Â
Whether sticking to the warm sand, swimming along the gorgeous Betterton Beach, or launching a kayak or paddleboard onto the Bay, Betterton Beach offers visitors to our Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast an excellent opportunity to enjoy the best of the Chesapeake Bay. That is, of course, unless you want to stick closer to your home away from home for the day and enjoy our tranquil 70-acre paradise!Â
Our Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast offers plenty of space to spread out and relax, gorgeous seasonal gardens to meander, a pool in which to take a refreshing dip on hot afternoons, and access to the water from our own private dock (with kayaks available to borrow, too!). Summers spent on the Chesapeake Bay are idyllic and nothing short of relaxing. We’d love to share the best of this charming area with you. Spend a Day at Betterton Beach This Summer
Betterton Beach, located in the town of Betterton and just around 30 minutes north of our Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast, is one of the largest and best Eastern Shore beaches in Kent County. Betterton Beach is located near the mouth of the Sassafras River and offers swimming waters with lower salinity than other Eastern Shore Beaches. Among other things, that means fewer jellyfish in the summer!
Though the park surrounding Betterton Beach is just over 5 acres, it offers an impressive 700 feet of public shoreline – much larger than other Eastern Shore beaches like Rock Hall Beach, which we’ll discuss below. With so much space to enjoy, it’s easy to find your own little sandy slice of beach to enjoy for the day without feeling crowded and uncomfortable.Â
Apart from the sandy beach, Betterton Beach also features a bathhouse, picnic pavilion, volleyball courts, and a stone fishing jetty to enjoy. There’s a boat ramp to launch kayaks here, too, so you can get a closer look at the Bay and surrounding rivers. Concessions are also available for purchase on most days during the summer. When you want to take a break from Betterton Beach, we recommend walking the steps to the top of the cliff. The view from there is gorgeous!Â
More Great Eastern Shore Beaches
Betterton Beach is a great place to start if you want to get out and explore the Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. However, it’s just one of the lovely Eastern Shore beaches worth visiting this summer! There’s one even closer to us in Rock Hall and others a little further afield. Whichever of these Eastern Shore Beaches you choose, we know an idyllic beach day awaits you this summer!Â
Rock Hall Beach/Ferry Park
Apart from our own slice of the Chesapeake Bay that you can access from our property, the closest beach to us is Rock Hall Beach, also known as Ferry Park. Conveniently, Rock Hall Beach is located right in downtown Rock Hall, which means you can enjoy all the great things to do in Rock Hall, MD, before hitting the sand for a fun day in the sun. When you’re done, you can visit one of these fantastic Rock Hall Restaurants for dinner – a great chance to enjoy some of the best Maryland crab this summer!Â
Apart from offering a great place to relax and unwind during the day, this spot is one of the best Eastern Shore beaches for watching sunsets on the Bay. Views from here look over to the Western Shore and Bay Bridge – a spectacular scene under the fiery hues of the setting sun.Â
Terrapin Nature Park
If you’re looking for a quiet but scenic beach far away from the crowds of bigger and more popular beaches, head to Terrapin Nature Park, south of our Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast. This nature park encompasses just shy of 300 acres and features wildflower meadows, wetlands, tidal ponds, woodlands, and sandy shoreline. There are fantastic trails here to enjoy and excellent bird and wildlife watching.Â
The trails here also connect with the Cross Island Trail System, which offers even more miles of hiking and biking to enjoy this summer. The sandy and beautiful beach gives visitors one of the best views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Unlike other Eastern Shore beaches, however, you can’t use coolers, grills, or shade structures outside the picnic areas, and fishing is only allowed in designated areas to protect these sensitive habitats.Â
Bellevue & Oxford Beach
Just south of St. Michaels and around an hour from our Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast are two more fantastic Eastern Shore Beaches. The first is Bellevue Beach, and just across the Tred Avon River and connected by the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, is the Oxford Strand. Both of these beaches are more secluded and crowded than other Eastern Shore beaches, offering easy access to Chesapeake Bay waters for kayaking adventures. The Oxford Strand is more suited for swimming and playing on the beach. Both beaches are charming and perfect when combined with a day trip to St. Michaels or the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.Â
Visiting these fantastic Eastern Shore Beaches is just one of the many great things to do on the Eastern Shore of Maryland this summer. In your downtime, we invite you to relax on our beautiful tree-lined property. From lounging poolside at our Inn to visiting the best Eastern Shore beaches, it’s hard to go wrong. Isn’t it time you booked your room at our luxury Eastern Shore Bed and Breakfast?
